Comparative and Transnational LGBTIQ+ Legal Studies: Toward a South Asia–Anchored Global Research Framework
This position paper advances a comparative and transnational framework for legal research on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). It highlights the fragmentation of existing scholarship across jurisdictions and emphasises the need for institutional structures that connect South Asian, Global South, and European legal perspectives. Focusing on migration, asylum, and the interaction between legal systems and lived experiences, the paper situates SOGI issues within evolving global legal contexts. It presents the IDEA Institute as a South Asia–anchored initiative aimed at advancing interdisciplinary, comparative, and underexplored areas of legal scholarship, thereby contributing to a more integrated understanding of equality, mobility, and human rights in an interconnected world.
